Solvang Treffen / Cachuma Lake

After a two year wait the time has come the Solvang Vintage Treffen and the much awaited Cachuma Lake campout. Hesitant about going, as most of you know ALL my buses motors took a dump and are awaiting the assembly of their motors. I was about to take off on a solo trip with the 63 Beetle but it ended up selling and did not want to take any risks damaging it or!? Come $Mike .... offers a lift up. So I take his offer. After gathering all my gear, Mike & Windy swing by and collect me, Eef shows up with his little posse. Mikka, Luca and Rex Smile So off we head towards the Slam Gabriel mountains and jump on the 210 freeway heading north towards Santa Barbara. Boy, what an adventure it turned out to be. 36 hsp action! We finally meet up with Cirilo Gangoy Jr lll, Maurice Gangoy's son. So I jump in his bus and make the trek on those crazy hills. After struggling with all that traffic we finally made it to the Cachuma Lake campground. When we arrived the wind was blowing pretty hard. Miserable, is what came to mind. Though Eef got a call from Ventura Mike and informed him of a separate campground with plenty of trees, shade and away from the wind. A good call it turned out to me.  I'd have to say we got the best camp spot. So you know come 2016, you know where we will be Wink Once we set up camp, it was on!!!  Though on a separate note - this time around our crew was very small. Three buses only, when we typically roll 15 deep or more. But we made the best of it. Good times, that's for sure.

Big shout out to $Mike, Cirilo and Eef.

Here are my pilots, $Mike and Windy.

Eylsian Park - Sunday afternoon cruise and bbq

After spending the afternoon, the day prior, sanding, welding, painting and what ……… prepping a motor. I was informed of the Dino’s Bomb Squad bbq. Though this time it’s a treat as it was held at the famous Elysian Park. This specific area, The Palms, was a notorious cruising spot back in the early 80’s. Stadium Way, drag racing fame, was just down the street. Boy did this hang out session bring back tons of memories. I jumped in Black Temper, left Slam Gabriel, and was on my way to Down Town LA area. Though I took the scenic route through San Marino, South Pasadena, Highland Park and then jumped on the 110 Freeway. Which happens to be the oldest freeway here in So Cali.

Upon Arrival, Bombs and Low Riders were everywhere. Sitting in the dead center and a prime spot is CRG’s 57 Deluxe 23 Window, his Buddy Humberto’s 62 Deluxe 23 Window, Marco’s 1954 RHD Convertible and Not My Richie’s 1962 Notchback. There were a few other VW’s but they were on the opposite said of where these guys were parked. These guys had the grill rolling hard!! Carne Asada, Pollo Asado, Ribs, frijoles, arroz ….. you name it, it was there!  The Chelas were on the ice as well. Good times, good friends, beautiful weather and awesome rides. Just your typical Southern California weekend.

Until the next time my friends. Enjoy the pictures ………………

And now the best for last. Black Temper all dirty but representing. Thick "kick it" ended up turning out to be better then what I expected. Lots of old stories were exchanged this day.

King's Boardshop Open House

It's been a while since my last posting of a car show or gathering, this is one for the books. This turned out to be a better gathering then what I expected. Brian, owner of King's Board Shop, with collaboration of the German Folks Car Club, organized this really cool open house. WOW is the first word to come to mind when you enter the show room. A very impressive display of cool products as well a diverse collection of clothing, boards, hats, shoes, etc. Seems as if there is no end to what King's offers. A class act outfit. Brian, as well as his crew, are very helpful and knowledgeable with their product lines. This establishment is worth the visit, and any of you out of towners (European's) want the Cali look ......... hit King's.  More information here ......... (click here

Now the cars and bbq action. Aside from the GFK being present, other car clubs like The German Bombs, Oil Drippers and the Swapmeet Mafia were on hand showing support. King's supplied the Jarritos (Mexican sodas), water, burgers and hotdogs. GFK supplied the carne asada & pllo tacos, and world famous chef, Cuñado Earl ....... he supplied the gourmet grub. Example: pull pork mini sandwiches.  There were the BOMB!! King's also supplied folks with t-shirts of the event, prizes, games and a cool DJ.

In the end, this turned out to be a great gathering amongst old friends and new friends. There is talks about doing this event again come next year. I will keep everyone posted.  Enjoy the pictures.

These pictures will give you a better perspective of what I was writing about King's Board Shop.

Here's shot of Brian's Squareback and Paul Smoot's Oval.

Here's a shot of Cameron & his lady, rolling to the event from Glendora and his posse.

Rolling into the show.

Here is a magazine featured Notchback owned by Kevin, aka Soul Built. Very impressive ride.

Here is a really cool shot of Brian's and Smoot's rides inside the display room.

President of the GFK's , Mike Navarro, ride.

This was another beautiful Notchback, sporting original paint. Bad Ass!

The original "PLAY DIRTY", in front of his placa!!

The Swapmeet Mafia!!!

Now these two are most likely the most famous internet celebrities on hand. Rich's 50 & Cuñado Earl.

The main chef's on hand. The Navarro Bros.

I'm Back!!!

Been out and about, and Txakurra hunting ........ reason for my 2 month absence. As well sorting out both motors for my 54 Kombi and the 71 Westfalia.  They should both be up and running soon. The goal is to get the Kombi rolling before the Solvang Treffen weekend.

Also while I was out in Euskal Herria, I decided to sell the 1963 Beetle.

Stay posted, I have TONS of pictures to post.

Primo - perdóname por montar un motor de mujer Smile
